Our Story

SUNDAY MORNING SESSIONS

The SMS seed was born in the early 2000's while enjoying surf sessions with friends at Sumner Beach in Christchurch. Often on Sunday mornings and often in sun...or sleet...or snow.

The idea stewed for many years here in New Zealand and around the world, cultivated by experiences walking, running, biking, surfing, climbing, stretching and playing with friends and family.

Now SMS is coming to fruition in Wellington, New Zealand.

We're into high quality T-shirts and Hoodies with our own print designs that celebrate the outdoors, being active and being together.  We use 100% Fair Trade Organic cotton, printed locally with non-toxic inks and delivered to you in biodegradable or re-used packaging.

We're a small family business, juggling life's challenges and aiming to grow into a healthy business that still allows us 'sunday morning sessions' of our own.

Social Responsibility

We'd like to have a positive effect in our world and ensure the 'Field to Function' product journey is as sustainable as possible. We looked for partners that align with our values, without compromising quality.
We chose:

Advantages of sharing these values:

  • farmers belong to the Organic Soil Association, it all starts in the soil.
  • Fairtrade accreditation to ensure better wages for farmers.
  • minimal water use and water recycling on farms.
  • organic practices avoid toxic herbicides and pesticides.
  • renewable power for manufacturing (wind and solar).
  • T-shirts and Hoodies imported by sea, not air.
  • locally printed in Wellington with non-toxic ink.
  • SMS gear sent out in either re-used or biodegradable bags.
  • $10/Hoodie and $5/T goes to sponsor less privileged kids on Hillary Outdoors courses .

Sir Edmund Hillary:
"Hillary Outdoors provided the best outdoor learning environment available – a truly unique combination of environment and education."
